Fiber Paper/Wet Felt and More!

If it's time to go beyond the standard stainless steel, the purchased ceramic molds, and the flat-shelf fusing surface this workshop should interest you. The emphasis will be on working with fiber papers, wet felt, and shelf paper as ways to create very individual texture, form and dramatic surface relief in your glass projects. Many of you have seen the sculptural commissions in my studio - these are the materials I use to achieve the results. Wet felt is a very versatile material. You can form it into all kind of shapes - including very specific molds to slump over or into. When it's dry sand it, carve it, drill it, add to it, break it up or primer it. Fiber paper: Using scissors and Exacto knives we carve simple or complex patterns and designs into this material. It can be stacked, glued and manipulated in a number of ways. Glass projects of very intricate detail and deep relief can be realized with this material. Simple dropout molds can be created. It can be used in combination with wet felt - the possibilities are endless. We'll also touch on clay, plasters, fusing sand, shelf primer paste and sand blasting --- just some of the other materials to explore in this artistic journey.
